Emrie is the CEO of Rand Merchant Bank, South Africa. She has over 28 years’ experience in the financial services industry. She is passionate about diversity and growing the number of females in managerial positions in the bank.
Under Emrie’s leadership, RMB IBD has won several industry awards: ‘The Banker – Most Innovative Investment Bank in Africa’ (four consecutive years); the ‘M&A Today Global 100 Investment Bank of the Year in Africa’ (2020); the ‘Global Finance Best Bank in Africa for New Financial Technology’; the ‘Spire Best Debt Origination Team on the JSE’ (10 consecutive years); and ‘Dealmaker’s Best BEE Investment Adviser’ in 2019.
Emrie obtained an Accounting degree in 1990 from UP and completed her Honours degree the following year at UJ. Emrie qualified cum laude as CA (SA) in 1994.
She started her career at RMB in 2001 – specialising in various lending businesses, including property, cross-border finance and leveraged finance. She became the Head of Acquisition and Leveraged Finance in 2006 when RMB formed its Investment Banking division (IBD). In 2009 she became Business Development Director in the Cape Town office and relocated back to Johannesburg in 2015. Before joining RMB she was at Nedbank and KPMG.
Emrie is a member of RMB’s Executive Committee (Exco) and a board member of the RMB Financial Resource Management Exco, RMB Platform Exco and Conduct Exco.
Emrie is passionate about diversity, inclusion and growing the number of females in managerial positions in the bank.
In her free time she enjoys spending time in the bush and having good food and wine with friends and family.
